Capt.
Scott Avanzino (on right in photo to right) grew up fishing
everyday with his younger brother Jamie, while summering on the
waters edge in Narraganset, Rhode Island. Capt. Scott spent his
first 18 summers of his life chasing bluefish and stripers from
the rocks and beaches lining Narragansett Bay, before discovering
the fantastic offshore tuna fishery off Block Island, Rhode Island
during his high school years. After going on to college to Colgate
University, where he graduated with a BS in Geology, Avanzino found
the best fishing in the Continental US in Venice during the late
80's. He made further discoveries in the bluewaters off Venice after
moving to New Orleans to attend graduate school. While earning a
Master of Science in Geology on an academic scholarship to Tulane
University, Avanzino also acquired a 100 ton Master Mariner license
and got into guiding part time in 1995. After a brief and successful
career as a Senior Field Engineer for Schlumerger Oilfield Services,
Capt Scott Avanzino got into fishing full time professionally in
1999, claiming to being ruined for the better after reading a the
Jimmy Buffet book, Pirate Looks at Fifty. Since reading that book,
which he credited with changing his life at that time, he now considers
it a distant second to any book in the New Testament. He continues
to apply the same hard work ethic to fishing that brought him so
much success in other areas of life and though he humbly shifts
all the credit to God.
His passion for blue
water trolling, wreck fishing and wading the barrier islands is
equaled by few, and his love of the sport and respect for his peers
is exemplary. His exploits include numerous state records
top 3 or higher and feature articles
in regional and national outdoor publications, as well as national
and local cable television programs.
His greatest achievement
as a fishing guide came on October 11, 2007, when he was part of
a team that helped his 10 year old daughter Noelle break the existing
IGFA small fry World Record for wahoo when she landed a 60.1# fish
unassisted. Capt. Scott is very intense and passionate on the bridge,
and off the boat a confident Christian man devoted to God and his
wife, Sandy and their two children Noelle and Kenneth.
